Norman Morton Howard, 82, a veteran of the Korean War, died of cancer on his birthday, Aug. 5, 2011.
He was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Hot Springs, S.D., to Clara and Morton Howard. He spent two years in the Army: six months in Korea and 1½ in Japan during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1953.
He and his brother, Leslie Howard, were well known at Holiday Stores, where they stopped for coffee before long country rides.
He had spent eight months at Horizon Hospice House and two days in the Billings Clinic Hospital.
Survivors include three sisters, Edith Young, Grace Satterthwait and Hannah Berscheid; and his brother, who helped him raise three nieces.
