2008 World Champion Guilherme Marchi rode Pandemic (C'N Stars Bull Company) for 90 points to win the fifth Professional Bull Riders 15/15 Bucking Battle on Friday at Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark. Marchi is the fifth different winner of the special round, which matches the Top 15 riders in the world against the 15 highest-ranked bulls at the event.
CBS will broadcast the event in its entirety at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 5 (please check local listings).
J.B. Mauney finished second with 89 points on RMEF Gunpowder & Lead (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls), riding with his right hand. Mauney is competing for the second week in a row after switching to riding with his right hand down. He broke a bone in his customary left riding hand four weeks ago at Kansas City, Mo. He was unsuccessful in four outs last weekend at Uncasville, Conn.
Fabiano Vieira finished third with 88.25 points on Party All the Time (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls), and L.J. Jenkins was fourth with 85 points on Unser Racing Bull (Hyland Cattle/Brookman Hyland Rodeo). Vieira was the first rider to reach 8 seconds, following seven consecutive buckoffs, and was the leader until Marchi’s ride.
The PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle has an additional purse of $21,000. The bulls were each randomly assigned a position from 1-15. The riders were then matched with their bulls based upon their own current rankings in the Built Ford Tough Series standings.
The PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle replaces the first short round at nine events, and points earned in the special event do not count toward the results of the event. Points earned in the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle do count toward the season standings, however, and money earned counts towards qualification for the Built Ford Tough World Finals. BFTS points are doubled in the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle, with the winner receiving 200 points and second place receiving 180 points, continuing on a graduated scale to 20 points for 10th place. If a rider fails to make a qualified ride, he does not receive any points or money.
The other dates for PBR 15/15 Bucking Battles are May 12 at Nampa, Idaho; and May 19 at Pueblo, Colo. Two more events in the second part of the season will be announced at a later date.
