Jan F. Schoonover, 78, who built boats and was a record-setting boat racer, died Jan. 27, 2012, at his home in Billings.

He was born April 8, 1933, in Lima, Ohio.

On Oct. 26, 1978, he married Alice B. Tesch in Billings. He also had worked as a salesman, guest ranch owner and outfitter and as a leather artist.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Cheryl Bowers and Susan Schoonover; a son, Dan Schoonover; a sister, Jill Wolf; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Feb. 1 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2. Services will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 2 at Dahl Funeral Chapel with interment in Terrace Gardens.
