George “Bud” W. Smith III, 71, who worked more than 30 years for Burlington Northern Railroad, died on Leap Day, Feb. 29, 2012.
He was born Sept. 11, 1940, in Hysham to George and Catherine Smith. He grew up in Billings, graduating from Senior High School. He served in the Air Force for four years and worked for the railroad in Laurel and Glendive.
He collected stamps, books and geological formations. He enjoyed parachuting and developed his own photographs.
Survivors include his mother; daughters he shared with Kay Smith, Kristin Smith and Sara Geffre; sisters, Kathy “Dolly” Karls and Judy Hofferber; and five grandchildren.
A celebration was held March 4 at Riverfront Park in Billings. Dahl Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
