F. Genevieve “Jensy” Jones, 90, a registered nurse who also raised four children, died in her home in Billings on Sunday, July 29, 2012.
She was born at home on Sept. 9, 1921, the daughter of Herman and Esther Nylander in Parnell Township (now Traverse County), Minn.
One of six children, she spent her childhood on the family farm and attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse.
She graduated from Wheaton, Minn., High School at age 16 and worked on the farm and as a bookkeeper until she entered nurses’ training at Peabody Hospital in Webster, S.D. After graduating as a registered nurse, she worked at that hospital.
She married William W. “Bill” Jones on Feb. 28, 1944, and the couple lived in Clear Lake, S.D., until moving to Watertown, S.D., where he worked as an electrician and she as a nurse.
In 1953 they moved to Wyoming, near Midwest, where Mr. Jones supervised operations at Amoco Production. They transferred to Powell, Wyo., in 1958, where they lived for 48 years.
The couple relocated to Billings in 2006 to be near their two daughters and specialized medical facilities. Mr. Jones died in 2006.
Mrs. Jones was an accomplished pianist, performing informally as a duo with her husband and in a Powell kitchen band. She also knitted and crocheted and wrote personal letters in longhand.
Survivors include daughters, Kathleen P. Jones and Beverly B. Thorn, both of Billings; a son, Richard W. Jones of Billings; sisters, Miriam Medbery of Browns Valley, Minn., and Emma Crowe of Missoula; and a brother, Fred Nylander of Moorhead, Minn.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Cremation & Funeral Gallery, 29 Eighth St. W. Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery.
Memorials may be made to the Red Lodge Music Camp and RiverStone Hospice.
