Calvin Wahl, 76, a retired teacher and school administrator, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, in Billings after a long illness.
He was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Westbrook, Minn., to Edward and Lillian Wahl. He was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Westbrook, Minn. He graduated from Westbrook High School in 1953.
Mr. Wahl enlisted in the Air Force in 1955 and was stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland, where he was a cryptographer. He married Rosella Lutke in 1958 and was married for 20 years.
He received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1961 and a master of arts in education degree from the University of Montana in 1966.
He began as an English teacher in Hamilton and later was superintendent of schools at Forsyth and at Bridger. He also worked three years in Minnesota.
He was active in Veterans of Foreign Wars in Billings for many years and led drives to provide support packages for Montana troops overseas.
He had been a resident of the Billings Health and Rehabilitation Community for the last year.
Survivors include a daughter, Joann Wahl of Long Beach, Calif.; a son, Tim Wahl of Bradenton, Fla.; two grandsons; and a longtime friend and companion, Nancy Krell.
Services were Oct. 18 at Cremation & Funeral Gallery. Inurnment with military honors followed in Yellowstone County Veterans Cemetery.
