Kalliopi Torgeson, who was born in Greece, died Dec. 12, 2012.
She was born in Mavraoutha in northwestern Greece on March 10, 1931 or 1932, the second daughter born to Anastasios and Ebgenia Vassiliathou. Their first daughter was named Kalliopi, but she died soon after birth, and her parents gave her the same name.
In 1942 the family moved to Thessaloniki, Greece. In December 1947, she married Sawas Lazarides.
In December 1956, through the generosity of Anna Berkstead and Robert and Ida Seevey of Savage, Mont., the Lazarides family and her younger sister Parthena (Tina) emigrated from Greece to Savage. After a year and half of living on the farm in Savage, the family moved to Billings in June 1958, where they lived until 2000.
She had worked at the Billings Laundry, the Rex Laundry, Pacific Hide and Fur and at Bender’s Auction, among other jobs.
In 1967 she divorced, and, in 1972, she married Maxwell Torgeson of Frannie, Wyo. When Mr. Torgeson died, she moved to Belgrade to be close to her son. In later years, she lived at Elsie’s Assisted Living in Belgrade.
Survivors include sisters, Tina Oxley of Billings, Helene Romouthis, Anastasia Vassilithou, Athina Herepoulou and Lazaros Vassiliathis; a son, Kostas Lazarides of Belgrade; and a granddaughter.
Arrangements were in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel.
