Marion Ione Nord Buflod, 87, who taught for many years, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings.
She was born Sept. 13, 1925, to Carl and Elna Nord of La Bolt, S.D. She grew up on a farm, graduated from Strandburg High School in 1943 and started her teaching career that fall.
In 1945 she married John E. Buflod, and they had five children.
The family moved to Eastern Montana in 1955, and she taught at rural schools north of Miles City, followed by Rosebud, Hysham and Miles City elementary schools.
After her husband’s death in 1986, she moved back to South Dakota for nine years, then returned to Montana to be closer to her family.
She made frequent solo driving trips of approximately 500 miles or farther to visit friends and relatives until well into her mid-80s.
Survivors include a sister, Marlys Johnson of Strandburg, S.D.; children, Carl Buflod and Carole Warner; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather next summer in La Bolt, S.D., to celebrate her life. Arrangements were by Cremation & Funeral Gallery.
