James “Jim” Lincoln Olson Jr., 76, who had endured an illness for the last 10 years, died Jan. 3, 2013.
He was born Aug. 31, 1936, in Skowhegan, Me., to James and Roberta (Gould) Olson. He attended school in Hinckley, Me., until he was a junior in high school and his family moved to California.
After graduating from Long Beach High School in 1954, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii. After four years, he transferred to the Navy Reserves while attending Long Beach City College.
Mr. Olson was working as a timekeeper at McDonnell Douglas when he married Judy Bartz on Oct. 2, 1971. The family moved to Helena in 1976, to Rapid City, S.D., in 1995 and to Spokane, Wash., in 2002. He moved to Billings in 2007 to be closer to family.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James Olson of Helena; a daughter, Jennifer Duray of Billings; sisters, Barbara Albrecht and Rosemary Davis, both of California; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. Interment of ashes will be in Mountview Cemetery.
