Timothy Eugene Wood, 71, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, due to complications from a surgery in 2009 on a thoracic-abdominal aortic aneurysm.
He was born June 19, 1942, to Louis and Lillian (Sjolund) Wood in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Wood family moved to Glendive where he attended school and Dawson Community College. He also worked for his father at Gene Wood Ready Mix.
He moved to Butte to attend the School of Mines and worked in the mines to put himself through school. He joined the Army, but was sent back to Butte after six months to finish his six years of service in the National Guard.
Graduating from Montana Tech (School of Mines) with a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, he went to work for Montana Power in June 1972.
While employed by Western Energy, he built the tipple and runway at Colstrip. Reclamation was also part of his job.
Moving back to Butte, he inspected mines for Western Energy. After 25 years, he retired on July 1, 1997. Then he moved back to Billings and married Janette Marie (Steinborn) Martin in August 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Martin-Wood of Highgate in Billings; mother, of North Dakota; sisters, Kathleen Carlson of Minnesota, Carol Dalbey of North Dakota, Helen Williamson of Colorado, Barbara Entzel of North Dakota; brothers, Keith Wood of Minnesota and David Wood of Lewistown; stepchildren, Chris Martin of Nebraska, Kevin Martin of Oregon, Mark Martin of Colorado and Leo Martin; a grandson; and six step-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be in the Yellowstone County Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery.
