Robert “Bob” Preston Maupin, 86, a retired letter carrier, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, in Billings.
He was born Aug. 8, 1927, to Robert Sr. and Mary (Dolan) Maupin in Grainton, Neb. He was the fourth of nine children and graduated from Grainton High School in 1945.
In January 1951, he was inducted into the Army and spent a year in Germany.
He was honorably discharged in January 1953.
The following month, he was called to Gering, Neb., to help on the Emery Tillotson farm.
He married Betty Jo Tillotson on May 3, 1953. They celebrated their 60th anniversary on May 3, 2013.
Mr. and Mrs. Maupin lived in the Gering area, and in December 1956 he began working for the U.S. Postal Service during the Christmas holidays. In January 1957, he became a full-time employee, working as a foot carrier on the same route until he retired in 1985.
He and his wife were avid gardeners. After moving to Billings, he worked for the Malcom Long family as their yard and garden maintenance man for many years.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Randy Kay Powell, Mary Loree Hinebauch and Robin Renee Maupin; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters; and three brothers.
Visitation was Jan. 17 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Services were Jan. 18 at Valley Christian Church, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
