William Edward McBride, 90, of Billings, a retired truck driver and World War II veteran, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Billings Health & Rehabilitation.
He was born April 7, 1923, in Fayetteville, Tenn., the son of Lora Elmer and Janie Allen McBride. He joined the Marine Corps and served honorably during World War II. At 82 he retired from truck driving in California and moved to Billings.
Mr. McBride enjoyed dirt track racing from jalopies to midget and sprint cars and raced motocross in his 60s. He flew small planes and did acrobatics.
Survivors include Georgia Gackle of Laurel; Sharon Mcbride of Canyon Lake, Texas; Ruth Tovey of Oxnard, Calif.; Ellen Combs of Sturgis, S.D.; Ed L. McBride of Miles City; Marnie Smeenk of Athens, Ala.; and Alice Frank of Billings.
