Marjorie (Shay) Murphy, 89, of Billings, a registered nurse, died Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Billings Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born Oct. 19, 1924, in Laurel, the daughter of J. Roscoe and Lela (Bray) Shay. She graduated from Laurel High School and then from Montana State University Deaconess School of Nursing, Great Falls Unit, in 1944.
She married Frank Murphy on March 14, 1948, and they lived in Billings. She worked as an operating room supervisor at Deaconess Hospital, then as a private duty nurse, and finally as the public health nurse at the Federal Building.
After her husband died in 1965, she dedicated her life to raising her four children.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Shay of Lynnwood, Wash.; children, Ella Laden of Gardnerville, Nev., Frank Murphy of Laurel, Charlie Murphy of Molt and Patty Burke of Lancaster, Calif.; five granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were April 2 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
