At around 11 a.m. July 19, a wildland fire broke out atop Benedict Gulch and Sweetclover RD in Stillwater County north of Park City. Winds fanned the blaze to approximately 300 acres. The initial cause of the fire was a rekindle from a fire Friday night that had been started by fireworks. A crew from Park City had been out both Friday, and Saturday working the blaze before it blew up today. Crews from Laurel, Columbus, Molt, Reed Point, and State Land DNRC and Forest Service were assisting with Mutual Aid on the fire. County resources had been called up to also assist. As of 5 p.m. Sunday, Fire Command estimating having the fire about 50 percent contained. No structures were at risk. Fire crews did well at getting lines around the two homes that were at risk initially. |
