Ross A. Jamieson, 94, of Billings, a World War II veteran who owned and operated Jamieson Distributing here, died at St. John’s Lutheran Ministries on Nov. 22, 2008.
He was born in Valley City, N.D., on Oct. 6, 1914. After homesteading in Ekalaka, the family lived in Marmarth, N.D., and Roundup before they settled in Powell, Wyo., in 1928. He graduated from Powell High School in 1932 and attended the University of Wyoming, playing football for the Cowboys one season.
He worked for eight years in Red Lodge for Safeway, then served four years in the Army during World War II as a quartermaster staff officer. His duty included Washington, D.C., Africa , Sicily and the European Theater.
Following the war, Mr. Jamieson returned to Safeway as manager of stores in Sidney and Miles City and became district manager for Safeway in Butte and Great Falls. He later owned and operated Jamieson Distributing, selling food products to grocery outlets.
He married Catherine Parsons in 1945. She died in 1965, and he married Alta Page Glover in 1976. They traveled worldwide with Friendship Force, including hosting travelers from other countries in their home. She died in July 2003.
He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. In October 2007, he moved to an apartment in Chapel Court at St. John’s.
Survivors include a brother, Hewitt of Powell, Wyo.
Interment of ashes was in Richland Memorial Park. Arrangements for a private celebration of his life were pending.
